Young Women in Harmony
Westcoast is committed to inspiring young singers to embrace music and the barbershop style in their lives. Each year, Westcoast sponsors a Young Women in Harmony workshop at a local high school. We have enjoyed working with singers ranging from 12 to 25 years old. The young women enjoy a weekend full of making music, close harmony style, and working with other young women and knowledgable faculty. The finale of the workshop on Saturday night is a concert showcasing the Young Women in Harmony Chorus and also features Westcoast and some of our quartets. Here are some things these young women have said about our workshops:
The workshop has given me an opportunity to learn about different kinds of music, get more music experience and meet a lot of awesome people.”
This workshop has given me skills to take into other aspects of my musical life.”
I got to experience an all-women’s choir, got coaching in small groups and all together, and got advice from many different sources. It encouraged me to sing louder and more confidently.”
The 8th annual Young Women in Harmony Workshop is January 27/28, 2012 at Langley Secondary School!
This two day workshop, with a low cost of $40, gets you meals, music, learning tracks, swag, and the chance to work with the famous Sheryl Brook (director) and Lisa Hills (choreographer). If you had fun at one of our previous workshops, come again! Come one, come all, women aged 15 - 25. Younger singers accepted on a choir director's recommendation.
